The purpose of the Guild is to spread the word about the devotion to The Infant Jesus. This devotion owes its origin to the zeal of the Venerable Sister Marguerite of the Blessed Sacrament. This daughter of St. Teresa was distinguished for her devotion to the Holy Child Jesus. Venerable Marguerite made a chaplet consisting of three Our Fathers in honor of the Holy Family, and twelve Hail Mary’s in memory of the twelve years of the Sacred Infancy of our Divine Savior. On August 9, 1885, Pope Pius IX granted an Indulgence, applicable to the souls in purgatory, for its devout recitation. Guild members join together at funeral wakes of parishioners, pass out chaplets and novena cards to the people in attendance, and together recite the chaplet for the family. We also attend Baptisms of children entering into the church, present the child with a bib, infant medal and a card of membership to the IOP Guild. We have an active prayer line for those in need of special prayer intentions and each person on the prayer line recites a chaplet or a special prayer for the individual in need of prayers. Some social events throughout the year include the Baby Mass and Brunch held for all families of baptized children for the particular one year time period. We hold an annual Parish Garage Sale in the month of June, an annual Craft Show in November and Christmas caroling at the nursing home in December. All net profit income generated from social events is used for church/parish wants or needs, community outreach and local organizations that need extra funding to help children and families. |
