What is Baptism?
Baptism is a ceremony where water is poured over the
child's head three times, in the name of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit. It is not just about giving thanks and asking for a
blessing. The child is becoming a member of the Christian Church
and their parents and godparents take on responsibilities on behalf
of the child.
Baptisms at St Martins take place after the 10:30am
Sunday Mass. If you are interested in having your child baptized at
St. Martins please contact the Parish Office to arrange a date.
A Baptismal workshop is held each spring and fall. Check the
bulletin for dates. This is a workshop on the Sacrament of Baptism
for all parents and godparents of children who are to be baptized in
the next six months. If you want to have your child baptized at St.
Martin’s, you should plan on attending this workshop.
By
baptizing your child you will promise to bring him/her up as a
Christian and encourage him/her to be part of the Church. Thus some
people use the word Christening.
